Orthosensor Technology for a Better Knee Replacement by Dr. Robert Ference
Published on Oct 27, 2014 At Detroit Medical Centers new computer-navigation in combination with the OrthoSensor (a procedure performed by Orthopedic Surgeon Robert Ference, M.D. at DMC’s Sinai-Grace Hospital), helps surgeons achieve perfect alignment and balance for both knees. In the past, mis-alignment was a primary reason whyknee replacements had to be re-done. The Ortho-Sensor is an innovative disc that is placed into the knee and allows the surgeon to gauge the pressure on the inside and the outside of the knee. Currently, DMC Sinai-Grace in Detroit (www.sinaigrace.org) is the only hospital in Michigan using the combination of the computer navigation with the OrthoSensor. Recovery time is reduced, and the majority of the knee replacement patients are back to their daily activities within 6 weeks. The new technology allows younger people to get knee replacements because they will last longer. www.sinaigrace.org, www.facebook.com/sinaigrace, (313) 966-4800
