My name is Tracy and I had the Oxford Partial done in Oct, 2009, Still having lot's of problems. I still have a lot of pain, stiffnes, swelling, and fever in the knee. But the biggest problem is the lower half of my leg is crooked, yes crooked!! It is as of right now 9 degrees off from the other leg. Went back to Doctor, he met with biomet, and at this point they don't think going back in and taking out the #4 pad in the knee and putting in a #3 will help, so right now I am back in my ACL brace to see is it will help. LOL LOL LOL!!!
Any advice from any one? OH yea I also had a new ACL put in July 2009, no not a repair a new one. Oh and I am 49 year old very very active female. (Or was very very active)

Hi Tracy

I am sorry to hear that your recovery is not going well.  I have not had a knee replacement, so don't have personal experince.  I have had a hip resurfacing and my only suggestion would be to try to get a second or third opinon from several other surgeons.  That is quite normal with people that have had hip resurfacing and are experincing post op problems.  I have a list of the top surgeons in hip resurfacing and many will give a free email consultation if you send them your story and x-rays.  Unfortunatley, I have not developed a list of the same type of knee surgeons that will do the same.

You did not say who your surgeon was or where you live.  I do have a few surgeons listed, but not a large list.  Many of the top resurfacing surgeons also do knees.  I could suggest you look at my list for resurfacing and see if there are any of the most expeirnced surgeons near you.  YOu can ask them for a second opinion and if they don't do knees, ask their office who they suggest.  http://www.surfacehippy.info/listofdoctors.php

I hope you can find a solution soon.  PLease stay in touch.

Hi Tracy,

So sorry to hear about your partial knee recovery being difficult.

I did not have a Biomet implant.  I had a lateral uni and my surgeon used the Depuy Sygma HP.  Was your replacement medial or lateral?

I am 46 and also very active.  My surgery was done on Jan 2010 in Boston.  I am currently 10 weeks post op.  I am still going to PT 3 times a week and getting stronger everyday.  I see ALOT of total knee patients at PT most of which are older than us.
I guess the take away message from seeing other knee replacements in recovery is that, everyone heals differently

What did your surgeon say as to why your leg was still crooked?  Have you sought a consult with a different orthopod?  If you are interested in the findings of my research, I am happy to share that with you.

I hope you get some answers and most of all get this fixed.  I'm sure you have an active life to resume.

Regards,
Judy

Hi Tracy,
Best of luck with your bone scan.  Hopefully there's something that can be done to make it better.
Please keep me posted.

Thanks,
Judy
